The new NIC dormitory was completed during academic year 2002 and
provides comfortable basic accommodation, and cable television drops.
Rooms are arranged in quads or triples.
Quad rooms have two sleeping rooms with two beds each, and triples
have one single sleeping room and one double. Each suite (quad or triple)
has its own toilet room and shower/bath room. Each sleeping room has a
sink, vanity and mirror, along with considerable storage space for clothing
and gear.
The rooms are air-conditioned and there are laundry facilities and a
television lounge on each floor. NIC now offers the finest possible facility for
the CSSPD.
Single sleeping rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis
to students for twice the double-room rate. Single rooms share toilet and
shower/bath rooms with a double sleeping room. The CSSPD administration is
unable to provide the exact number of single rooms that may be available for
the 2008 school, so if you require a single, apply early as possible.
Please note: Students choosing to provide their own lodging and meal
arrangements are directed to research the necessary arrangements via the
internet or other resource; information on these is not available from the
school administration.
Facts of Dormitory Life
- Smoking of tobacco is not allowed in the dormitory, and the use of
alcohol is strictly forbidden on the NIC campus.
- Rooms are basically furnished with twin beds, desks and chairs.
- Students must provide their own:
- Sheets
- Bedding
- Pillows
- Towels
- Students may also wish to bring:
- Reading lamps for beds and/or work lamps for desks
- Dry-erase markers for the provided white boards outside each room
- Folding 'camp' chairs are handy for recitals, which take place on
a concrete apron outside the dormitory entrance.
- Playing of pipes and drums is not allowed inside the dormitory building.
Practice chanters and pads may be played at any time in student rooms, but
not in the building lobby. The dormitory has a well-equipped media room,
allowing a movie night for younger students and others as well, given
sufficient interest.
- The outside door of the dormitory is maintained locked at all times.
Each resident is issued an electronic card-key that opens the outside door
and their room door. The CSSPD shares the dormitory with at least one
other summer session group, so some cooperation and consideration is
necessary. When possible, groups are located on separate floors.
- Non-student family members may reside in the dormitory along with
family members for the same rate as students.
